Breakthrough

I haven't tried to keep the fact that I'm an obsessed Twilight fan a secret. Sure, I'm a tad embarrassed that I've read all three books three times in a matter of three weeks, and even more embarrassed that I took a sidetrip to Forks, WA last March while visiting Seattle. But, at least I've been honest about my obsession. I have been willing to embrace the fact that I am as silly as your average thirteen year-old girl.

However, I have had a "growing-up" experience that is definitely worth documenting. As most of you know--since I haven't hesitated advertising it on my blog--the fourth and final installment of the Twilight saga, Breaking Dawn, is being released on Saturday! I have my wristband and plan on attending the Midnight party at Barnes N Noble. Because of this much anticipated event, I've been rereading the first three books to prepare. Well, after reading for almost two weeks now, I'm only about 3/4 of the way through the first book! I've hit a wall! I actually get bored when I read them. I get so bored, that I think I will stop. Wow!

I'm sure this is just a phase--I'll take back all my words of blasphemy on Saturday when I get the last book. But, until then, I consider this a breakthrough.

Getaway to Midway

Last weekend the entire Evans clan went on a weekend reunion to Midway. We stayed in a time-share house and mostly just relaxed. It was a lot of fun to spend time with everyone, but it was especially fun with my cute sister-in-laws. All of them are so awesome and we had a lot of fun shopping and hanging out.

The highlight for the kids, and if truth be told, Clark, was the blow-up air waterslide. The kids spent the entire day on the slide even though the water was freezing. Nothing can keep Stockton from water.

The Brave Prince

Last Christmas, Clark's brother asked all the families to write a story to put together in a family book. We were pretty much the only ones who followed through, so no one ever got to see our masterpiece. It's actually kind of silly, but it still deserves a public showing. It was fun to make, to say the least. Click the link below to view.

Twirly Slide and Slurpees

Stockton and his cousin, Talmage, at Canyon Rim Park, where we've spent most of our summer days.

You'll need to keep the sound on for this one. Just pause my playlist music. :)

And to add to the list . . .

We have had a rough last 36 hours in the Evans home, or I should say that Stockton has had a rough last 36 hours. I hesitate doing this post because I don’t want to sound like I’m complaining (complaining would be impossible where Stockton is concerned) but instead, I’m posting this to show what a tough little trooper my Stockton has been his first two and half years of life. Literally, from day one of Stockton’s life he has had to deal with some pretty serious physical trials (though things could be much worse I suppose) and yet, through it all, he still remains to be the cutest and sweetest little boy ever.

Trial #1: Borderline Reflux (0-12 months old)
Stockton went through about three bibs per day because they would get so soaked with his excessive spitting up. We had to use the extremely expensive kind of formula to keep anything down. (Try not to laugh too much at Clark in this picture. :) The bib is what I am trying to emphasize.)

Trial #2: Atopic Dermatitis (Birth to present)
Stockton was a pretty difficult baby for the first few months until we discovered that he had severe atopic dermatitis or eczema. When he was only one month old, he learned how to scratch the rashes all over his body. When he was about four months, we saw a specialist who gave us an ointment that kept the break-outs under control. From that point on, Stockton has been nothing but a happy boy. Stockton is one month old in this picture. You can see the eczema on his cheek.

Trial #3: Plagiocephaly or misshapen head (4-12 months)
At about 4 months, we noticed that Stockton had a flat spot on the back of his head. We tried to have him sleep on his side to mold his head back into shape, but unfortunately that didn’t work. We eventually proceeded with helmet therapy when he was 8 months old. He wore this helmet everyday all day for two months, then only at night for another two months.

Trial #4: PDD NOS (15 months to present)
Who knows when this actually began, and it probably will never go away completely, but Stockton continues to improve and cope with it everyday. PDD NOS is an autistic spectrum disorder, though one of the most mild on the spectrum. This is one of my favorite pictures of Stockton, but it also shows his arms tensing up with excitement, which is a sign of his perseverating.

Trial #5: Asthma (presently)
Perhaps this is related to trials #1 and 2—my boy does seem to be sensitive to allergies, though we can't pinpoint what. A couple nights ago Stockton woke up at 2:00 in the morning with a difficulty in breathing. Since then we have been using a nebulizer three times a day to help him breath, but he is pretty much over the worst. We're not sure if this will be a recurring thing or not. This is the nebulizer we have to use. Stockton has a love-hate relationship with this baby. He likes the mist, but gets annoyed with it in his face.

What will be next?

Happy 4th of July!

We had a great 4th of July celebration with the Evans Family. We went to Chad and LeAnn's house for a backyard picnic and fireworks. It was really neat to have all 7 Evans families present and to see all the kids play together.

Stockton swinging with his cousins, Riley and Robyn.

Swinging pretty high with Aunt April (I thought this picture was really cute even though it's blurry)

Stockton watching the fireworks. He was pretty scared and kept his distance.

A Fun Sunday at Grandma and Grandpa Howe's Home to Celebrate the June and July 1st Birthdays

Happy Birthday Mom, Laura, Katie, and Maquel!

Playing Duck, Duck, Goose! (or trying to teach Stockton how to play)

He's getting the hang of it.

But Duck, Duck, Goose! is not as exciting as sticking your face just centimeters away from the race cars.

Say cheese!

The Fiery Furnace

Last Friday I drove down to Moab, UT with my parents to lead a youth group through the Fiery Furnace. Normally, I love any excuse to go to Arches, but I was a little weary knowing that Moab in June isn't the most pleasant temperature wise. However, it turned out to be a really delightful trip due to a combination of factors: One, the trip was really fast (we we're only there one day); two, The Fiery Furnace is a relatively cooler place in Arches; and three, I got to spend some one-on-one time with my parents. I truly have the best parents in the whole world. They are so funny and such good friends, and we get along so well together. I am a very lucky girl.
