What's In A Name?

We are in need of serious help! I thought that Clark and I had the names of our girls to a narrowed-down list but apparently, as I just barely found out in a heated discussion on the phone, that isn't the case. I'm starting to worry that we'll end up being like my neighbor and good friend who has a two-and-a-half month old daughter they still haven't named.

For the most part, Clark and I like the same style of names. Something more traditional, but not too trendy. We lean towards family names and church history names, but we won't sacrifice liking the name for sentimental reasons (Clark's grandmas' names of Marva and Melba aren't going to make the cut).

I think it is safe to say we've settled on one name: Mary Gail. Mary is my mom's mom and Gail, of course, is my mother's name. I was very close with this grandmother and her name fits with the traditional style but isn't too trendy as of late. With that in mind, we have no idea what to name twin number two. We're thinking of using Ginger (Clark's mom) as the middle name though. What do you think we should name her? Here is our list of names we're considering (I would have put front-runners at the top, but apparently there are no front-runners):

Sarah (though a little too popular still)
Lauren
Tess (I wanted Tessa but Clark vetoed that)
Valerie (almost vetoed but Clark really likes the Steve Winwood song)
Audrey
Paige
Brynn
Bridget
Tiffany

Most of the above names aren't exactly traditional or family names or chruch names, but unfortunately we couldn't agree on any that were. Just for kicks, here's a list of the top vetoed names:

Ella (vetoed by Clark, though I agree it's a little too trendy)
Elsa (vetoed by Clark because it sounds foreign)
Anna (vetoed by Clark)
Charlotte (vetoed by Clark)
Jane (still one of our favorites but we don't like it with Mary and it's becoming trendy)
Judy (vetoed by Maquel--no explanation needed)
Belle (vetoed by Maquel--and Clark thought Elsa sounded foreign)

Love the name Audrey!I think Audrey Ginger has a nice flow and I think Mary and Audrey sound cute together. They are matchy, which is cute for twins, but not in a cheesy kind of way.

Good luck! I don't envy you in this decision.

I'm still voting for Laura. With an A. L-A-U-R-A.

Here is a list of noted uses of the name Laura in popular culture:

Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Dr. Laura Schlleisinger.
Laura, who Petrach wrote love letters to.
Laura, the protagonist of "Dr. Zhivago."
"Laura calls me in the middle of the night" a song I've only heard sung by your brother because apparently it's the only time Billy Joel used the F-word in his lyrics.
And Laura Croft Tomb Raider. She spells it Lara. She's wrong though.

We appreciate everyone's feedback, but you can direct it to me. Since 'Mary' is a name from Maquel's side we've decided I get to pick the other name.

So far Valerie is leading the pack, but I remain open to suggestions.

Seriously - who wants to name a girl with names that no one has written cool songs about and about which hate groups have been formed?

just go with your list to the hospital if you don't settle on one...i haven't named either of my kids before i had them. I LOVE the name tess...that is my vote. but don't feel pressured to have her named before you go...you know you won't have a 3 month old with no name... :o)

good luck! names are so hard...because I love way too many.
I still love Jane and I don't know that many...dang, I hope you are WRONG and it isn't becoming too trendy...it would make me sooo mad!!
So, are you sure on Mary? and then looking for a second? I think all of your choices are cute. I love the name Elsie too....kinda like Elsa though.
I do really like Audrey too.
But I also love Belle:) Because it is a family name for me...so really, your opinion is the only one that matters! I love names, so let me know what you decide on! Oh, and I really like the name Charlotte and Lottie for a nick name.

ooo and I love Lauren too!

I think Lauren, Audrey, and Paige are pretty timeless sounding names. You know, good as baby names but also great adult names. I guess Valerie is okay too. Scott also vetoed the name Charlotte because he didn't want his daughter to be named after a spider. Boys are weird.

All I can say, Clark, is "Val-er-eee, Val-er-ah, Val-er-ee, Val-er-ah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha" Isn't that an old Australian song? We like Tess, Lauren, Sarah, Jane, Tifiny, Audrey -- maybe not Valerie. But we love whatever name in the end, when we get to know your daughter.

My heavens I don't like being the last of the last to have children someday... Between the Healeys and the Evans, all my favorites are taken. Don't be surprised when there are two girls named addie and two girlies named tess and two girls named Mary! ha! Whatever you pick will be perfect! I love the name Lauren!

All your names are so cute! I can see why you can't decide. If I ever need a girl's name, I might refer to your list! I like them all. I think Tess, Paige and Lauren are my favorites. I'm sure you'll find the perfect one!

Oh...the old hate (concerned citizens) groups. I thought you would have moved past that by now Clark. Let's see. Since Lindsey wasn't on the list, I vote for Bridget. Adam has a lovely friend named Bridget, and I think it is one of those names that works for a baby and an adult. Although Lindsey works for both, as well. Adam ended up naming our girls since I was still in lockdown. He did a great job, so maybe I should have him respond. See you at the shower,
Linds

I'm going to vote for Lauren and Audrey as the ones I like best from your list. The good news is there's not a bad choice in the bunch, in my humble opinion. As for a write in vote, I've always preferred Aubrey over Audrey. A dead giveaway that I'm and old Bread fan.

Hmm, I like the names on the list - especially Paige. It sounds cute with Mary - but I'm not sure about Paige Ginger because there's a lot of gggg in the middle. Two names that I like that I have never used are: Olivia, and Sophia. Not sure if those would be your style or not, but just in case!
