Grandma's House and Pig-tails

We closed on our house a couple weeks ago--it's so nice to have that over with! I thought I'd mourn leaving it but I feel, surprisingly, disconnected already. We've been living at my parents house and will be here another three weeks or so. It's been a lot of fun so far.

With the stress of selling and moving behind us (at least for the time being), I feel like I have a lot more time in my day. So, I've decided that I should try styling my girls hair. Doing hair is one of the reasons I was scared to have girls. Until recently, I've had short hair my entire life. I don't know how to do it (on me or my girls), and Mary and Tess (especially Tess) don't really like it when I try things on them.

Here is one of my experiments. It was like murder to get these pig-tails in and the girls had pulled them out by naptime. I need help. Any suggestions?

Mary never hesitates to say "cheese:"

Tess, on the other hand, has her own agenda. Here she is defiantly telling me "no" when I asked her to say "cheese:"

And this is what Tess thought about her pig-tails:

And here is a random zoo picture that was taken around the same time:
